A lot has changed over the years on how at least I get things done better, but what's in the articles will get the job done or I wouldn't put it there.
The 3/8 will usually get the job done if you are cranking by hand and is a little easier to get in place... if the bolts aren't corroded in place.
An impact wrench on 3/8 drive that long will be mostly absorbed by the length of the extension and is probably why I talk about 1/2 drive in that article.
